Reel Time: Salat, documentary review

Subtitle: 1 child dies every 5 seconds because of Hunger
by GMANews

A widow last July, Vina is a 43 year old mother of 5. She borne 10 child, 1 died, another was released to adoption. One of her children Mary Rose weights 15.5 kg on a 10 year old body. She has to stop 1 year of schooling thus remaining in grade 3.

Malnutrition at Parola Compound Tondo, Manila is the main theme of the documentary.Families would go to health center for check up and non-governmental feeding program would regularly supports the community. Mary's local School accredit feeding program for pupils as well. "But it cannot sustain for them the long run" says a church minister who held the help. "if the parents are employed, at least it will run for long" However the Head Nurse of Health Center enumerated the cause of malnutrition; poverty, lack of education, and parent's attitude.

I lose appetite after absorbing the reality most people experience. Here we live in sanity. Well provided family with helpers, a house for good, a balanced and sometimes excessive meals, a chance to study and work as professionals, these are the things we take for granted in life, not knowing other people would cry in silent frustration if they could only exchange situation with us. This world is not our own, and so does the problems it hold. So we will miss the chance to help, or at least be a voice for others, If we focus on ourselves alone. God sees, God knows, God hears, and He is talking to us through these people.

A year Later

Last update I read about Mary Rose from the TV station's facebook was that a concerned citizen manage to reside the whole family on a house for rent and pledged to provide the expenses of their studies up to college. This is a win-win situation; not only the local network gained international recognition from award giving bodies, but most of all there lives dramatically changed. It goes to show that Media used in right manner, right response in life disregarding  its social  status, and a willing heart to help will result to an eye opener around the globe. God is good, nothing is impossible in Jesus Christ!
